And there’ll rainbows. And cake.

First:  So socialized medicine is a good thing, right?  Because our government can hold down costs and give everyone the treatment they want at the same time, right?  Except we all know the government has never held the costs down on anything and there’s already talk of how to limit the amount of care available.

If you are still under the ridiculous assumption that our government would never do that to us, consider this from the NHS in Britain (you know, the folks Michael Moore thinks do such a fantastic job that we need to copy everything they do?) (via the Agitator)

The Government’s drug rationing watchdog says “therapeutic” injections of steroids, such as cortisone, which are used to reduce inflammation, should no longer be offered to patients suffering from persistent lower back pain when the cause is not known.

Instead the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is ordering doctors to offer patients remedies like acupuncture and osteopathy.

Specialists fear tens of thousands of people, mainly the elderly and frail, will be left to suffer excruciating levels of pain or pay as much as £500 each for private treatment.

The NHS currently issues more than 60,000 treatments of steroid injections every year. NICE said in its guidance it wants to cut this to just 3,000 treatments a year, a move which would save the NHS £33 million.

And 1) you still want this here and 2) your Senators and Representatives think it’s ok to vote on this stuff without reading the damn bill?

Second:  Our fearless leader has to find a way to make good on his promise to close Guantanamo so apparently the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas is on the table.  I love the take on this at Cold Fury which includes a quote from the AP:

Hey, remember back when pResident Super Genius promised he’d never bring dangerous terrorists to US soil?

Administration officials say they are determined to keep to his promise of closing Guantanamo in January as a worldwide example of America’s commitment to humane and just treatment of the detainees.

Yeah. Because the most important consideration here isn’t that these fanatical killers are kept on ice and unable to wage jihad against us; it’s that we’re perceived by our enemies around the world as being nice enough to them. And then they’ll like us, they’ll really really like us, and there’ll be rainbows. And cake.

I love Confederate Yankee’s take on it:

A lot of people are getting their noses out of joint about a poster popping up around Los Angeles comparing President Barack Obama to the Joker.

    Frankly, I don’t get it.

One embraces terrorists and madmen, is dedicated to anarchy and the destruction of capitalist society, and sends the population fleeing in horror from his creations.

The other is a fictional character played by the late Heath Ledger.
