Sunday Night Link Dump

I spent the afternoon splitting logs with a maul for my folks.  The last time I did that was at least 10 years ago.  I’m not feeling too bad right now, but I’m guessing I’ll have a bit of trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

I’m not sure how he got it, but dad had several cedar and a couple of Osage Orange logs.  The cedar split very nicely, except for the ones that had multiple knots in them.  The Osage Orange was a tough split until I gave up on trying to split them in half and started taking off smaller pieces.  I needed the smaller pieces anyway, as (if you aren’t familiar with this sort of thing) it burns so hot that a normal sized log makes their house too hot, whereas throwing a couple of small pieces in with some other wood boosts the heat output without making the room unlivable.

As for the link dump, it’s kind of a mixed bag tonight.

First, my grandmother used to say of something that would be nice to have, but wasn’t ever going to be in her budget, “I’ll buy one when I find a dollar rolling uphill.”  If I found $100 rolling uphill, I’d get one of these.  (Also, check out some of the links on the page about string theory if you like that sort of thing.)

How about a 6 minute trip to the edge of the known universe and back? (via GeekPress)

Finally, tjic has a series of graphs that give a bit of perspective to the whole Anthropogenic Global Warming nonsense.
