A first

I’ve never been one to get too involved, politically.  Oh sure, I’ve got plenty of opinion and I’ve not been terribly shy about sharing it here at Ratlands.  But, out in the real world, I’m well aware that my opinion and $5.21 will get you a quad shot, venti latte at Starbucks.  It’s one thing to blather on about a cause.  It’s quite another to put your money where your mouth is.

For the first time in my life, I’ve actually sent a contribution to a political campaign I believe in, outside of Kansas.  On January 19, the special election to fill the seat of the Late Ted Kennedy will be held in Massachusetts.  If, against extremely long odds, Scott Brown should win that election, the Democrats would find themselves one short of the 60 votes they currently have in the Senate which guarantees they can ram through any and every stupid, malicious, ill-conceived piece of unread legislation they choose.  Aside from the delicious prospect of a Republican filling the “Kennedy Seat” in the Senate, having Scott Brown in the Senate would mean Democrats would lose the ability to force things like Obamacare  down our throats without public debate as they are currently attempting.

That, in my opinion, is worth passing up a few big cups of overpriced coffee.  I don’t have the resources to make a large donation‡, but I did contribute.

It might be worthwhile for you to consider doing the same.

‡especially since my recent adventure in the world of Identity Theft, a story for another post
