My new motto

Well, I hope you all had a lovely Labor Day weekend.  The Head Rat and I watched the extended versions of all three Lord of the Rings movies.  And, of course I spent time with my shredder.  Other than that, it was pretty ugly here in the Ratlands.  I got multiple calls from work each night and ended up spending a couple of hours at work early Monday morning.  I had sort of planned to go to bed early over the weekend to try to re-set my internal clock, but when you don’t get home til 3:00, getting up at 6:00 just doesn’t work all that well.  Don’t get me wrong, I like my job and I like having a job, but the weekend inspired me to adopt a personal motto.

I picked it out, but I was having trouble deciding exactly how to say it.  It conveys slighly different meaning, depending on how you emphasize it.  In the end, I asked my staff for help today, basically soliciting their opinion as to which version seemed to be the most appropriate for me.  The choices were as follows:

1)  I hate people.

2)  I hate people.

3)  I hate people.

It was nearly unanimous.  The staff mostly seem to think that #3 captures the essence of what makes me special.

While I’d prefer to think that I, as one of your staff (aka: your people)would not be included in whatever may have prompted your adoption of, “I hate people” as a motto,I gotta tell ya I found it a little odd that you filed it under, “Personal”.Your motto does have everything a good motto needs though… it’s short, very specific and immediately captures the reader’s attention. In addition (at least for me, personally) it proved to be quite thought provoking as well. I was trying to recall who it was that said, “I love my fellow man but, people really piss me off”? I’m not sure if that’s the exact quote but, I’m guessing it was from somebody’s stand-up comedy routine (in the mid-to-late 1970’s maybe?)Of course, this could very well be the kind of OCD crap that made you feel it was time to have such a motto in the first place. If so, I apologize. I still want the answer, and I truly believe you are probably one of the few people I know who might actually know the answer but, my apology still stands… sort of. Truth is, I know there are times when incurring your wrath, intentionally or not, really does bring out that certain special, defining ‘something’ in you that we (your people) have come to admire and respect so much. I do think there might be some room for clarification on the specifics of your hatred for people though. For example, I’m curious about whether or not ‘people’ includes women and children? If so, I think you may have to have to back-paddle a little bit on your motto. I mean come on, babies too? Who doesn’t love babies? Okay… maybe not all babies all of the time but, you see where I’m going with this, right? I know at least half the people on the planet have exhibited quite a talent for confusing the hell out of me but, I can’t say I hate them for that… not all of them…not all of the time…not while Angelina is still alive and there’s even a remote possibility she will drop that Bradwhatshisgeek and adopt me (for the record I am and have been an orphan for several years now).Hate hurts everybody dude! I figure if I’m willing to take on the Midnight Cowboy as an adoptive grandfather, the least you could do is to learn not to hate some babies some times! It doesn’t work as well as a motto though, huh? I mean, “I hate people” kind of pops… it’s a real grabber… “I hate people, except for some babies at some times” is kind of a crappy motto I guess. Never mind. About the motto I mean… I still want an answer on the quote thingie though, okay? Peace out pistol packer!—K.
