No, I haven’t written anything for quite a while, but, on the bright side, I haven’t given you “definitive” advice that later turned out to be wrong…

Yes, I’m still alive.  I’ve been watching a lot of TV in the evenings.  Lots of stuff going on at work.  I would lie and say I’ve been working on a really big essay, but I don’t really see the point.  I’ve been coming home in the evening, crawling into bed and dozing through the evening until it’s  time to go to sleep (or go back to work, which has been the case 3 times this week.)  I’ll get back on track one of these days.

Until then, consider the problem of the Health Police.  For years, they’ve been telling us fat is bad for us.  We’ve had low fat diets, low fat food, no fat food.  They’ve been hammering “fat is bad” into our heads.  Now it turns out that the “fat is bad” message just isn’t quite true, and they’re faced with a dilemma:  do they a) maintain the simple “fat is bad” message, knowing that it is partly a lie, or b) tell the truth and risk confusing the message and damaging their credibility in that this is an example of  the “experts” being wrong.  Again.

Personally, I would opt for option c) leave me the hell alone and let me and my doctor be responsible for my health choices.  But, that’s not going to happen when there’s research money, government ad campaign money, continued funding for experts’ salaries, not to mention the continued opportunity to maintain a sense of self-importance by bossing other people around on the line.
