Quote of the Day

I didn’t watch the VP debate last night.  First, I’ve been holed up in my office studying and forgot that it was on.  Second, when I came out of my office last night for a break, the first thing I heard (the Head Rat was watching it) was Joe Biden crowing about how he and the President came in and “rescued” GM.  Very few things make my blood boil as much as some idiot saying that my tax dollars being used to steal the equity I purchased in GM so that the members of the UAW could be kept firmly in the President’s camp was a good thing.  (I don’t know if you’ve seen the reports, but last I heard, GM would be in danger of bankruptcy again if the Federal Government wasn’t buying up the vehicles they can’t sell.)  Anyway, that was pretty much all I could stomach, so I went about my business.

The Diplomad‡, however, did watch the debate and had (as usual) comments worth reading.  Among them:

According, therefore, to the Vice President our intelligence capabilities are not sophisticated or truthful enough to report accurately on an attack on a US facility by some two hundred heavily armed men in the middle of a city in a friendly country, but sophisticated and truthful enough to monitor intricate details of a hidden nuclear program undertaken in a very remote and heavily guarded location in the middle of an extremely hostile nation.

As always, you should go read the whole thing.

‡This is actually Diplomad 2.0.  I followed the original Diplomad for quite some time, until it closed up shop.  He has since retired from the State Department.  Given his experience in the Middle East, if you are at all interested in events in that part of the world, you should probably be reading him.
