Benghazi

I’ve been meaning to talk about this for a few days now, but it’s getting bigger faster than I can keep up.  The short version is that it appears that the former SEALS at the CIA compound in Benghazi were in contact with the State Department (at the very least) and perhaps the White House during the attack on the American compound on 9/11/12.  There is evidence that they requested help and were turned down by someone in the Administration at least 3 times.  There is evidence that members of the Administration were watching the attack, live, via predator drones.  There is evidence that the Administration deliberately lied about the “offensive video” because admitting that Al Qaida attacked and killed our Ambassador and others would have been counter to the “I killed Osama and we beat Al Qaida” narrative the President has been trying to sell to bolster his abysmal failure in the foreign policy arena.  There are dozens of good write-ups out there, including here, here, here, here, here.

I know personally, I often skip over a list of links like that, but seriously, spend some time reading about this stuff.  If, when you’re finished you aren’t absolutely incensed, drop me a line, we’ll talk.  At the very least, we’ll talk about why the Administration did absolutely nothing for 7 hours while two former SEALS held off a mob, killing 60 and allowing 20 or so American consulate workers to get to safety before being killed.

The evidence suggests that our President is either an abject incompetent, morally bankrupt, and/or criminally negligent (or deliberately criminal).  Given that the President, after 6 weeks, still hasn’t managed to get the official set of lies worked out with all the players, I’m going with the first option, with the caveat that incompetence doesn’t necessarily rule out the rest of the list.

Now, all of the stuff I linked to is pretty straight forward.  There is, however, a conspiracy theory out there (and who doesn’t like a good conspiracy theory) that suggests that the whole thing was arranged ahead of time.  The story is that the Administration arranged with Al Qaida affiliates to kidnap the Ambassador and hold him for ransom.  Obama was going to step in and “negotiate” for his release (giving up the Blind Sheik of the first WTC attack in exchange) and thereby prove his foreign relations prowess right before the election.  Such a move would have delighted the leftists, incensed conservatives, but might have resonated well with moderates undecided voters (assuming it didn’t come out that it was pre-arranged).  The story is that the “kidnapping” got out of hand and ended as it did because Doherty and Woods (the former SEALS) were unable to stand by and watch what appeared to be an attack on their fellow Americans and unilaterally intervened, thereby screwing up the whole plan.  Yes, it’s a conspiracy theory.  No, it’s not implausible.  Read about it here.

I don’t know what the real story is.  It does, however, seem clear that someone, somewhere in the Administration deliberately ordered US forces NOT to attempt to intervene.  It also seems clear that the President hasn’t yet come anywhere close to telling the truth about it.

UpdateA chart comparing Benghazi to the Bush Administration’s Valerie Plame scandal

As Doug Ross says:

I don’t need to be lectured by the likes of you — who made “Valerie Plame” a household term — when a U.S. ambassador and three other personnel are dead, when the president lied for days about how they were killed, and when we can’t find out why they were refused help, because the man ostensibly in charge refuses to take serious interviews and the White House Briefing Room has been closed for more than two weeks.

Also note the number of NYT front page stories regarding each scandal…

Update 2:  If you don’t think I know what I’m talking about, would you listen to retired Special Forces Veterans?

Well and if you just watch the B.S. news reports on the matter and have seen his speeches on this, you can just tell it’s just that, Bull Shit. If I can tell he’s feeding me crap and I’m not that bright and sometimes pretty gullible, then his lawyer-I’m-your-messiah- charm is wearing off and I think he knows it.
