Tattoo time

When I was 14, I decided to get my ear pierced after seeing Orson Bean on the Tonight Show.  I got it done when I was 27.

When I was in my early 20’s I decided to get a tattoo.  I’ve spent the last 30 years deciding what to get.  I wanted to make sure it was something I wouldn’t be sorry I got when I was older.  For example, I briefly (very briefly) considered George Carlin’s reference to a guy with a tattoo on his chest of Liza Minnelli taking a dump.  Skull and Crossbones isn’t really me, nor is the dagger through a heart, etc.  But, given that I turned 54 last week, I figure I’m probably old enough to make a reasonably tasteful choice.

Early versions of this website (when I was writing and managing the HTML myself) had a Gadsden Flag in the side bar (common then amongst libertarian leaning websites).  I dropped it when I moved to Word Press.

I picked it up again today, so to speak.  The only thing that annoys me is that when I tell people I got the snake from the Gadsden Flag, they give me the “bunny in the headlights” look until I say, “you know, like the Tea Party flags.”

I like it, I know what it is, and is the snake facing the wrong way? I’ve seen images where it’s facing the left instead of the right.

Technically, I guess it is. On the Gadsden flag the snake faces left. The guy who did it set it up to face forward. Right arm. Facing right. I like it facing forward, and the folks I’ve shown it to got it, so I’m ok with it, especially since it came out as well as it did.
