Video of the Week

It’s called Birth of a Tool.  Latvian crafters.  Blacksmithing.  Woodworking.  What more could you want. (via IMAO)

More from the boys in Lagos

I get lots of spam, both in my email and in the comments here at Ratlands.  Most of it is junk.  Most of the Ratlands comment spam is for various mail-order pharmaceuticals.  And, I get a few of the classic 419 scams (you are promised a commission for helping some person transfer funds out of […]

10440. True, but that’s your marketing pitch?

We’ve all seen those signs at the edge of town, “Population 6478”.  Sometimes you see something like “Population 4997 friendly people and 3 old grouches”.  Out in the western states you see “Elevation 6042 ft.” I’ve never seen one like this. (via the Agitator)

Go with what you know

Or perhaps I should say, “Stick with what you know.” I am a big fan of U2 (or at least their early stuff, as I haven’t bought or even heard their last few albums).  Joshua Tree is, in my opinion, one of the greatest records ever made.  It is one of 2 albums I own […]

A feeble attempt at getting back in the game

A few links of potential interest: Animated currency route of travel tracking map. Feel like bailing out mismanaged union pension funds? No, me neither, but apparently Congress does. Don’t feel up to going to (or can’t get to) the doctor’s office for that sinus infection you’ve been putting up with for days?  How about an […]

Two things

First, in case you missed it in the comments, Rat Jr. is moving home.  They should be well on their way by now. Second, I promised someone a link to the “10 creepiest unintentionally sexual ads of all time”  (via GeekPress)

Commercials

I’ve just recently started seeing this Burger King commercial.  The whole Spongebob square butt thing is creepy, but I just can’t get my head around the idea that someone thought the phrase “booty is booty” was a good idea in an ad for a 99¢ kids meal. This, on the other hand is how you […]

At last

I’ve made fun of Scion xB’s before, and I still believe they just scream “I don’t have enough horsepower to make aerodynamics an issue“.  I’m not sure what the demographic they are designed for is exactly (not me, obviously).  I’m guessing it is supposed to be sort of sporty, sort of environmentally friendly, sort of […]

Of tobacco and badgers

For the last 15 years or so, we’ve been rolling our own cigarettes here in the Ratlands, “rolling” being a relative term, since we use a machine that shoves the tobacco into pre-made cigarette tubes, rather than actually twisting one up. When I was younger, I used to sit in the basement at my desk […]
